There is no doubt that curly wigs are very beautiful and popular, many fashion people love curly wigs, they will give an elegant and sophisticated look. But one of the main downsides of curly wigs is that they tend to tangle more easily than straight wigs. If your curly wig is not brushed and detangled regularly, it can lead to knots and tangles. Tangled curly wigs can be a nightmare for many wig wearers. But what is a curly wig that gets tangled and matted, and how can you revive a curly wig? Please continue reading this article, we will tell you the answer.
Why are your curly wigs matted and tangled?
1. Too much product build-up
In most cases, our curly hair wigs become stiff and dull due to excessive product build-up. A common mistake many people make is that when they notice a tangle in their wig, they add more product to the wig to try and revive it. This can make things worse. Regular washing of the wig is recommended to remove and clean product residue.
2. The type of shampoo you use
While it is recommended to shampoo curly wigs regularly, you must be careful with the shampoo you use on your wig. Certain ingredients, such as sulfates, can actually dry out the wig. Therefore, mild shampoos that are sulfate-free and have a low pH are recommended. Such shampoos will not dry out your wig.
3. Wig quality
Inferior quality wigs such as synthetic wigs tend to be duller than quality human hair wigs. If you use a low-quality wig, it is recommended to wash it in time and maintain it properly. Let the wig dry completely after washing and avoid wearing it multiple times.
How to Revive Your Tousled Curly Wig
1. Wet the curly wig
Spray some water on the curly wig, or rinse briefly in the sink or shower with low water pressure to dampen it. While damp hair is ideal for most hair treatments, letting your hair drip may make it more prone to damage.
2. Loosen the curly wig
You can easily loosen tangles by partially soaking the wig in a good detangler, oil, or moisturizing conditioner. Detangle conditioners are specially formulated to smooth hair, while deep conditioners are great at replenishing moisture and making it easier to detangle. You can use coconut oil, olive oil, or argan oil, which may be especially helpful for textured hair. If you don't like the way oil feels on your curly wigs, you can use a hair-detangling spray.
In just a few minutes, your regular conditioner will finish nourishing your wig. For best results, you can use coconut oil and a similar oil and leave it on the wig for at least 30 minutes, but no longer than 2 hours. Deep conditioners usually leave on for at least an hour, and in some cases, may even be left on overnight, depending on the product instructions.
3. Untie the easiest knots with your fingers.
After the hair treatment has taken effect, try to carefully separate the knotted hair. From the root side of the knot, closer to the scalp, sometimes smaller, more pronounced tangles form from loose mats or knots.
4. Comb the wig
For heavy tangles, a sturdy wide-toothed comb is required. Thin combs and brushes may encounter too much resistance, causing you to stop brushing or pull out clumps of hair.
Always start detangling tangles near the ends. When combing downwards, the ends of the tangled hair should be a few inches away from the comb. Repeat this process until the hair in that area is free of tangles, then hold the comb a little higher. Keep doing this until the entire hair is brushed. For very knotted and long or thick hair, this may take an hour or more.
If you have a delicate scalp, hold a section of your curly wig while you brush. To prevent the comb from pulling directly on the scalp, pinch the hair between your fingers and give it a half-twist. When the hair underneath has been successfully detangled, lift your hands and comb the hair area under your hands.
If, despite your best efforts, the knotted hair won't come apart, it may need to be thinned. Holding the hair firmly with one hand, open a pair of scissors. To remove any loose hair, first, run the bottom of the scissors blade along the underside of the mat, then snip and gently pull on your hair.
Use a wide-toothed comb until tough mats and tangles are smooth. Use a brush or fine-toothed comb to remove any remaining knots.
Keep in mind that hair falls out a lot, we lose an average of 100 hairs a day. Because the hair is matted, the hair that falls out gets trapped and needs to be removed.
5. Rinse the wig
Once your wig is undone, rinse off all hair care products thoroughly. If your hair is heavily tangled and has split ends enough for you to part them, clip each area to separate and rinse individually.
