Youve Been Washing Your Hair Wrong Your Whole Life

Aug 9, 2023

You just enter the bathroom, wash your hair and that’s it. Are you sure that you’re washing your hair right? Well, you may be surprised to know that what you have been doing your whole life is wrong. Here are the right steps for washing your hair the right way.

1. Rinse your hair with warm water. Avoid using scalding hot water as this will dry the scalp out. Using warm water will open the cuticle and loosen the oils through your scalp as well as remove any product or dirt trapped in your hair. If your hair is long, you should apply your conditioner first. Run a small amount of conditioner through delicate hair ends to prevent further damage. Lightly rinse your hair before applying your shampoo. This will keep your hair ends healthy and fill holes in your cuticle with moisture.

2. Only shampoo your hair at your scalp. Lathering up from the roots to ends is the best way to wash your hair. The locks nearest the scalp are the youngest and the oiliest part of the hair, while the ends are the oldest and driest. Start lathering at the roots. Many people rinse their hair once it is completely lathered, but this is wrong. Before you rinse your hair, make sure to massage your scalp for two minutes. Use vertical strokes with moderate pressure to increase the flow of blood to the scalp and stimulate hair growth.

3. Circular motions can tangle your locks. Use a straight stroking movement to smooth the lather over your hair ends. Don’t use a backward and forward movement or scrub the brittle ends. Shampoo your hair only once to avoid striping your locks of moisture, unless your hair is really dirty.

4. Apply a generous amount conditioner and massage it into the mid-lengths of your locks to the ends. Squeeze out as much water out of your locks as possible before you apply the conditioner to prevent water from over-diluting the conditioner’s moisturizers. This will help repair, hydrate and nourish your hair.
Remember to rinse your hair with cold water. Cold water will close the cuticle and seal the outer layer, causing your hair to exude the most shine. It is very important that you use the right shampoo and conditioner for the type of your hair. If you are not using the right conditioner and shampoo for your hair, your locks will be damaged even if you are following the tips mentioned above. If you want your hair to maintain its look and shine, follow these steps and wash your hair the right way.
